MEGO
AFEK WAS FOUNDED in 1962 as a manufacturer of
quality pressure gauges and regulators for agricultural,
medical, civil, and industrial use. Since then, Mego Afek
has grown into an international medical device and measuring
equipment company, with a distribution network spanning
the globe and a product line that is unquestionably the
very best in its genre - the Lympha Press®.
MEGO AFEK IS A PRIVATE COMPANY, owned
by Kibbutz Afek, an agricultural/industrial cooperative
in Northern Israel. Kibbutz Afek is situated on over 2500
acres, most of which are devoted to field crops, orchards,
aquaculture, dairy and poultry. Kibbutz Afek also owns
Asiv Textile Industries, which supplies quality woven
cotton and blend fabric to apparel manufacturers in Israel
and abroad; and Hinanit, a sheltered workshop producing
soft toys and children's accessories for the local market.

In
the early 1960's, Kibbutz Afek recognized the need to diversify
from agribusiness to the industrial sector. This was partially
for economic reasons, but also to provide employment for
our elderly members who were no longer up to the rigors
of farming. We were pleased to acquire a small factory specializing
in pressure regulators and gauges, and from this modest
begining Mego Afek was born. Capitalizing on the highly
educated and talented local work force, Mego Afek soon became
the primary supplier for the agricultural market, as well
as the Israel Water Authority, laboratories and hospitals.

IN
1978, Professor Avigdor Zelikovski, Chief of Vasular Surgery
at Beilinson Hospital in central Israel, was experimenting
with intermittent compression devices for treatment of lymphedema.
Dissatisfied by the devices currently available, and frustrated
by their inability to alleviate his patients' suffering,
he produced a new sequential compression device for treatment
of lymphedema. Unique to his device: a multiplicity of cells
arrayed in overlapping fashion, so that when sequentially
filled with air, they applied a gentle "milking"
effect to the patient's limb. This "milking effect"
effectively assisted the patient's malfunctioning lymphatics
to drain accumulated lymphatic fluid from the limb to healthy
lymphatics in the patient's torso. Early clinical tests
of the new device showed remarkable results, and Professor
Zelikovski brought the device to Mego Afek for further development.

Mego
Afek developed and perfected Professor Zelikovski's original
model, and the resulting device, called Lympha Press®,
totally revolutionized lymphedema treatment. The years following
have seen increased competition; neverless the superiority
of our original patented design, plus continual improvements
as well as our insistence on quality, safety and efficacy,
have maintained Lympha Press®'s international
standing as the number one physician recommended device
for the treatment of lymphedema and venous disorders.
Our
medical line now includes sequential compression devices
for treatment of lymphedema and venous disorders (Lympha
Press®, Lympha Press® Plus, Lympha Press Mini®,
Lympha Wave, and Phlebo Press); sequential intermittent
pneumatic compression devices for deep vein thrombosis prophylaxis
(Phlebo Press DVT); self-powered devices
for office and travel (Lightfeet®, Flightfeet),
as well as the Lympha Press Equine, a sequential
compresion system for the veterinary market. We also produce
the innovative Ballancer® and Ballancer®
Plus lymphatic massage devices for the cosmetic
market, where they have been received with great success.
Mego
Afek's High Frequency Welding Division has added a new dimension
to our product line. High production capacity, plus the
skills of our master designers and craftspeople, ensure
quality, innovation ,and quick supply. Mego Afek has developed
a strong presence in the welded plastics market both locally
and abroad, especially in the disposable, medical, and environmental
control sectors.

World
wide demographics predict an ever-increasing need for quality
medical devices, and rapid growth in the sports medicine,
cosmetic and veterinary sectors. Environmental pressures
also indicate an area of growth in the waste and spill containment
industry. Mego Afek is actively pursuing these and related
projects within our areas of expertise.
